چکیده

This study compares the sensitivity of interdigitated electrodes (IDEs) used in Electrical CellSubstrate Impedance Sensing (ECIS). IDEs made of indium tin oxide (ITO) and ITO coated with iridium oxide (IrOx) were used for ECIS measurements with the human breast cancer cell line, MCF-7. The results indicate that IrOx-modified ITO electrodes provide both biocompatibility and higher cell sensitivity compared to ITO electrodes. We also found that the quantity of IrOx required to generate such a sensitivity improvement is sufficiently low to not interfere with the visualization of the cells under study. IrOx-modified ITO electrodes are therefore promising sensors for ECIS applications.

Neuronal differentiation and synapse formation of PC12 and embryonic stem cells on interdigitated microelectrode arrays: contact structures for neuron-to-electrode signal transmission (NEST).

The development of neuron-microelectrode interfaces (neurochips) is highly desirable for the non-invasive recording of the cellular response to neuroactive drugs as well as the electrical stimulation of nervous tissue by implantable electrodes. A prerequisite for neuron-to-electrode signal transmission (NEST) is the formation of synapse-like contacts between the neuronal cell and the conductive...

Electrical Impedance Monitoring of C2C12 Myoblast Differentiation on an Indium Tin Oxide Electrode

Electrical cell-substrate impedance sensing is increasingly being used for label-free and real-time monitoring of changes in cell morphology and number during cell growth, drug screening, and differentiation. In this study, we evaluated the feasibility of using ECIS to monitor C2C12 myoblast differentiation using a fabricated indium tin oxide (ITO) electrode-based chip. C2C12 myoblast different...

A Study of ZnO Buffer Layer Effect on Physical Properties of ITO Thin Films Deposited on Different Substrates

The improvement of the physical properties of Indium Tin Oxide (ITO) layers is quite advantageous in photovoltaic applications. In this study the ITO film is deposited by RF sputtering onto p-type crystalline silicon (c-Si) with (100) orientation, multicrystalline silicon (mc-Si), and glass substrates coated with ZnO and annealed in vacuum furnace at 400°C. Electrical, optical, structural a...

Electric Cell-substrate Impedance Sensing for the Quantification of Endothelial Proliferation, Barrier Function, and Motility

Electric Cell-substrate Impedance Sensing (ECIS) is an in vitro impedance measuring system to quantify the behavior of cells within adherent cell layers. To this end, cells are grown in special culture chambers on top of opposing, circular gold electrodes. A constant small alternating current is applied between the electrodes and the potential across is measured. The insulating properties of th...
